With the Rocky Mountains spanning a huge stretch of the state, there are breathtaking views around every corner of the high country.  If you’re on the hunt for some picturesque panoramas of Colorado’s mountain vistas, check out the following popular lookout spots in the stae

Lookout Mountain | Golden

Just west of Denver in the foothills outside of Golden is Lookout Mountain. This is great spot for both avid hikers or those just looking for a scenic drive.  The roads winding to the top of the mountain offer those who drive incredible views of local flora and fauna as well as sights of the city of Denver to your east and the mountains to your west.  If you’re prefer traveling by just your two feet, follow the Lariat trail for a 4.6 mile hike to the peak of Lookout Mountain.

Sapphire Point | Summit County

High above the five square mile Dillon Reservoir in Summit County is Sapphire Point, one of the most popular wedding locations year round in the Colorado Rockies.  The short hike around this point on Swan Mountain allows all generations to be able to enjoy the incredible views.  The whole Tenmile Range can be seen from this spot, as well as the towns of Frisco and Silverthorne.  Don’t forget your camera on this venture!

Collegiate Peaks Scenic Overlook | Buena Vista

Continue your way into the mountains and head to the quaint town of Buena Vista. Off of Highway 24 is the Collegiate Peaks Scenic Overlook.  Though you won’t gain a lot of elevation on your way to this place, you’ll get to gawk over the towering mountains across the valley.  This is the perfect spot for a picnic, so plan an afternoon here with your plus one or family!

Northstar Mountain | Hoosier Pass

Head to the top of Hoosier Pass just south of Summit County on Highway 9 and catch some incredible views from the trail up to Northstar Mountain.   You’ll have to hike in a little ways, but once you get above tree line, the expansive vistas surrounding you will take your breath away.  Head here for some prime alpenglow and top-quality sunsets.

Mount Evans Scenic Byway | Idaho Springs

One of the few Colorado 14er’s that’s summit area is accessible by vehicle: Mt. Evans.  It’s only a 30 minute drive west of downtown Denver and the byway starts just past AVA’s Idaho Springs outpost.  Climb via car 7,000 feet in 28 miles for the best views of the Continental Divide and foothills.
