There is nothing like getting out and exercising in the beautiful outdoors of Colorado. The Rocky Mountains are covered with endless amounts of hiking trails and breathtaking 14ers! If you love to hike and camp then come explore colorful Colorado and enjoy the pure beauty everywhere you look. Here are some great hiking trails to explore this summer!
Summit County:
McCullough Gulch is rated as a moderate hike located about 7 miles south of Breckenridge, on the right side of highway 9. This hike starts at 11,000 ft and has a steep grade. It is about a 2.6 miles round-trip with about a 800 ft elevation gain. Once you make it to the top, make sure to explore trail splits to catch different views of the tumbling water!
Quandary Peak: Is the highest point in Colorado’s Tenmile Range and 13th among the state’s 14ers. It is going to be about 6.2 miles round trip. You will be able to enjoy the exceptional views that extend across the Mosquito, Gore and Sawatch Ranges.
Buena Vista/Twin Lakes/Leadville area:
Ptarmigan Lake Trail: This is a great day trip when you are staying down and rafting on the Arkansas River. It is rated a moderate 6 mile hike that is great for hiking, walking, nature trips and bird watching. If you are looking for something scenic but a some what challenging day trip, then this is where you should explore!
Mt.Evans: If you are looking to climb a 14er this summer but are not looking for all the hard work 14ers typically come with, then come check out Mt.Evans! It is one of Colorado’s front range 14ers. It is about a ¼ mile hike that should take about 15-20 minutes. What makes this hike beautiful are all of the lakes, mountain peak views, high country tundra and wildlife.
Kremmling:
The Gore Canyon Trail: If you are looking for one breathtaking hike that is not to challenging, then come experience the beauty of the Gore Canyon Trail. It is about 3 miles round trip and curves around the side of the Upper Colorado River. It is well know for the amount of brown or rainbow trout in the river so bring along your fly rod and make a day out of hiking the Gore Canyon!
