Hiking Near Idaho Springs

Idaho Springs was the birthplace of the Rocky Mountain Gold Rush. The town has preserved much of the mining history and is now a popular tourist attraction. With world-renown rafting, unique hot springs, and the best barbecue around, Idaho Springs is a must-stop for the adventurer at heart. Main Street Idaho Springs has preserved much of its original charm with dozens of local boutiques and family owned restaurants. The town is located approximately 30 miles west of Denver just off I-70 and 45 minutes from Summit County on a clear day. Another fun fact about the town is it is home to the highest paved road in North America, leading to the top of Mount Evans, one of many of Colorado’s 14ers.

>  Prospector Trail – Looking a moderate challenge? Check out Prospector Trail in Idaho Springs. The 4.8 mile loop is family friendly – a great afternoon activity after rafting or ziplining. The trail is primarily used for hiking, mountain biking, and bird watching. Be sure to check out the hot springs if you have time!

 

> Mount Bierstadt Trail – This trail is used primarily for hiking in and out of one of Colorado’s most accessible 14ers. If you choose to stick to the lower trail, it will be 3.5 miles just under 7.5 miles round trip. The full hike is accessible from May until September, due to from the parking lot to the summit. Should you decide to tackle the entire hike, you will be hiking weather conditions.

 

>   Herman Gulch Trail – Herman Gulch is a 6.5 mile moderately difficult hike located just outside Idaho Springs. This trail is a local favorite. The wildflower fields, waterfall, and lake at the summit, add to the beauty of this hike.
