January Events Around Breckenridge & Vail

Breckenridge Colorado Fireworks

If you’re looking to kick the New Year off right, Colorado is the place to do it. Breckenridge and Vail, two of the most well-known mountain ski towns in the world, are wonderful places where unforgettable experiences can be had. Are you unsure of what to do for the holidays? Travel to either of these places and worry no more! There are endless amounts of activities to do for all sorts of interests.

Jessie UnruhIMG_1068 (8)It is never the wrong time of year to come visit Breckenridge, but if you happen to venture out there during the winter time, you will find yourself in awe of the beauty everywhere you look. If you plan to be in this snowy mountain town celebrating the New Year, you’ll never get bored with all the things to do! Jam-packed into one day is the Breckenridge Resolution Run during the daytime, and a Torchlight Parade down the mountain in the evening followed by New Year’s Eve Fireworks. One very special event, which also happens to be a local favorite, is Ullr Fest. It is a time to please the “snow god” in hope of some fresh powder to cover the mountains and to send thanks back for what we have received. Come experience the Ullr Fest parade filled with decorated floats, Vikings and a record breaking shot ski. After Ullr Fest activities are completed, the Budweiser International Snow Sculpture Championship is the next great Breckenridge event. If watching amazing art being created right in front of your eyes is something that is of interest to you, then this is an event to check out in January.

Many events take place throughout the holidays in the mountains, but some of the best are located in the heart of Vail. One famous tradition is the Icy Swimming challenge where willing brave souls take a dip in the freezing waters of Vail Valley. Another annual event is the Torchlight Parade on New Year’s Eve, where people ski down the slope with glow sticks forming a glowing train, followed by Fireworks later that night.

Even if you are on a ski vacation with your old college buddies or just making the journey with the entire family, there are plenty of different outdoor adventures to be made, ski lessons to conquer and even great local stores for some of the best shopping to experience.
